About Geoff Parcell

I am a business coach, facilitator, author and motivational speaker. I have written a practical book on Knowledge Management with Chris Collison. It’s called “Learning to Fly” and documents our experiences of applying a knowledge management approach within BP, an award winning KM company for the last seven years. We have recently published the second edition which includes new stories from other organisations, refreshes the knowledge on networks and communities of practice, and includes a new chapter on the self assessment process – knowledge based benchmarking if you like. I have rediscovered a passion for learning through knowledge sharing.

I am consulting to a variety of organisations both private and public sector to help create an environment where knowledge is exchanged freely. These organisations want to build their capability to learn and share with each other to improve their performance.

I am researching into the distinctions between experience and expertise, which is providing lots of learning about how knowledge gets shared most effectively.

I offer my time and expertise to the Constellation for AIDS Competence. Last year I worked with local NGO organisations in India, Cambodia, Philippines and Thailand to build the capacity to respond to HIV and AIDS.

Hello Geoff! Firstly, I would like to thank you for the stellar package of useful information and practical tips contained within “Learning to Fly.” It has already proved to be a valuable resource. I am (as of three weeks ago) Marie Stopes International’s brand spanking new Manager of Knowledge, a brand new position within a relatively new team. I am desperately in search of guidance and mentoring as I craft the position to fit the particular needs of MSI. If you are available for consultation at any level, or can suggest places to turn for mentoring of some kind, please let me know. Thank you for carrying the torch of knowledge management and leading the way for the rest of us!

    Cheers,
    Erica Nelson
